A closed comedone occurs when a pore becomes completely blocked by a combination of excess sebum (your skin’s natural oil) and accumulated dead skin cells. Unlike a blackhead (an open comedone), which turns dark because it is exposed to the air and oxidizes, a whitehead is covered by a thin layer of cellular debris. Because the pore is closed off, the trapped material forms a firm, white or flesh-colored bump beneath the surface.
If you try to squeeze these at home, the pressure often causes the pore wall to rupture underneath the skin. This spreads the bacteria horizontally, leading to painful, cystic acne breakouts, hyperpigmentation, and permanent acne scars.
At Deep Spa, we utilize a specialized, sterile methodology:
-
Skin Preparation: The skin is thoroughly cleansed and steamed to soften the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin) and loosen the debris inside the pores.
-
The Lancet Technique: A medical-grade, single-use sterile lancet is used to gently prick the very top layer of the comedone. This creates a clean exit path so the sebum can escape upward rather than tearing the skin.
-
Controlled Pressure: Using protected, gloved fingers and a precise angle, we apply uniform pressure around the base of the blockage, pushing it cleanly out of the follicle.
-
Post-Extraction Care: The area is treated with a soothing, anti-bacterial solution (or high-frequency therapy) to kill lingering bacteria, reduce redness, and instantly fast-track the healing process.
